If your wife is somewhere between 30 and 39, and you’ve been married 7 to 10 years, I want to give you a heads-up. Because this is the danger zone. This is when a lot of women — smart, loyal, responsible women — start quietly planning their exit.

They don’t always announce it. They don’t always threaten it. In fact, most men are blindsided by it. But make no mistake — if she’s in her 30s and the marriage isn’t great, you may be sitting on a ticking clock.

Here’s what’s happening behind the scenes:

  • She’s exhausted. From the kids. From work. From doing way more emotional labor than she signed up for.
  • She’s wondering if you’re ever going to see her again — not just as a mom, a co-worker, or someone who handles things, but as a woman.
  • She’s not looking to start over… but she’s also not willing to keep living like roommates.

And maybe for the first time in her life, she’s got the financial and emotional clarity to walk away if things don’t change.

Here’s the stat most men don’t believe until it happens to them:

Women initiate 70% of divorces. If she’s college-educated it’s closer to 90%.

And most men only realize they’ve got a real problem when it’s too late to fix it.

So here’s your warning:
if you’re married to a woman in her 30s, and it’s been a while since you felt close, don’t assume she’s just “going through something.” Don’t assume she’ll ride it out. Don’t assume she doesn’t have options. Assume she does. Then do something about it.

Talk to her like you actually care about what’s going on inside her. Ask how she’s doing — and then listen. Without fixing, without defending, without minimizing. Just listen. Be the guy she can turn to again. Be the guy who says, “I miss us. Let’s figure this out.” Because this isn’t about flowers or date nights or grand gestures. This is about showing up — emotionally, mentally, consistently. If she feels invisible, taken for granted, or like you don’t really get her anymore, you are on borrowed time.

Don’t wait until she’s packing bags and handing you papers. If you want to stay married, start acting like it.

Need help figuring out how to reconnect with your wife BEFORE it’s too late? Schedule an individual appointment with me. No judgment. Just a real conversation about how to turn this around. You don’t have to do this alone — but you do have to do something.
