The Hallmark Card Your Lawyer Advised You Not To Send

Let’s be honest: for a significant portion of the population, Valentine’s Day isn’t about hand-dipped chocolates and renewed vows. It’s a high-pressure reminder that you’re legally tethered to someone who still hasn’t figured out how a dishwasher functions.

If your internal monologue looks less like a sonnet and more like this, you aren’t alone:

  • V is for the Vale of tears I wade through.
  • A is for the A-hole you’ve become.
  • L is for the Laughter (the manic kind) that cleanses me.
  • E is for this Everlasting cold war.
  • N is for Neglect at every conceivable juncture.
  • T is for Tomorrow, when I’ll actually start caring again.
  • I is for my Inmost dreams (mostly involving a solo vacation).
  • N is for the Night before the dawn (hopefully).
  • E is for the Eternal mounds of dishes you ignored.
  • S is for the Sacred love that’s currently MIA.

The Reality Check

We’ve all been there—staring at the “Romantic Partners” aisle in CVS, wondering if there’s a card that says, “I love you, but please stop breathing so loudly.” If you’re currently drowning in hopelessness and wondering when “The One” turned into “The One Who Ruins Everything,” take heart. Despair is a great motivator, but it’s a terrible life coach.

Things can change, whether that means fixing the foundation or finally deciding the house is condemned. Your “happily ever after” might not look like a Disney movie, but it could involve significantly less crying over unwashed plates.

Stop poeticizing your misery and book an appointment. Let’s see if we can turn that “Everlasting War” into a peace treaty—or at least a civil ceasefire.
