Stop These Poor Habits and See Change from Within

pleasestopYou are probably thinking about New Year Resolutions. So, in this New Year, please stop…

  • Texting and looking at your IPhone when you are having lunch with someone. Be present.
  • Staying up too late. Go to bed at a decent hour.
  • Buying too much stuff.
  • Talking negatively to yourself. Start being kind to yourself.
  • Yelling at your spouse and/or children to clean up. Just begin slowly to declutter.
  • Working all the time. Relax. Enjoy the simple pleasures of life sometimes.
  • Thinking you have more time, money, and space than you really do.
  • Trying to do too much in the morning before you go to work.
  • Trying to do too much in the evening when you get home from work.
  • Letting your children be involved in too many activities. They need some down time.
  • Eating fast food several times a week.
  • Thinking it’s your spouse’s fault that you are so miserable.
  • Thinking it’s your fault that your spouse is so miserable.
  • Being disappointed in your spouse.
  • Being disappointed in your children.
  • Being disappointed in your friends and family.
  • Thinking it’s up to you to change people.
  • Trying to be perfect.
  • Trying to get other people to be perfect.
  • Trying to be good enough.
  • Blaming yourself or other people for the way things are.
  • Waiting for things to change before you really allow yourself to enjoy your life.

If you slip into old habits, you can begin again at any time. You don’t have to wait for a new year. Every day is a new beginning. You will never be perfect, things will never be “done”, and you will never “get it right”. We are all here doing the best we can, and learning many of the important things in life “the hard way”. Let us resolve to allow ourselves to see things differently. Change begins from within.
