Guess who said that? Michelangelo at the age of 87.
That inspires me to approach my life as a beginner — as a learner. I can still learn something about myself. I can still learn something about my partner, and so can you. We can learn about something that interests us. Not in order to “master” the subject, or so that we can protect ourselves, or impress others with our knowledge, but simply to let curiosity have free play. “Curiosity killed the cat.” “Knowledge is power.” He “knew too much.”
We know that learning will change us, and so we might be afraid to learn, or afraid to know something. We desire and fear change simultaneously. What is it that you go out of your way to avoid? Is it money? Is it sex? Is it housework? Whatever it is, consider approaching it for the purpose of learning about it. I will too. To learn is to be vulnerable, and where there is vulnerability, there is also the good stuff that makes life worth living.
